CUMBERLAND — Cumberland Theatre, 101 Johnson St., will hold principal and chorus auditions for the December production of “Miracle on 34th Street the Musical” Sept. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The show will be performed Dec. 5 through Dec. 22, with rehearsals starting Nov. 16. The show is based on the popular classic film of the same name with music by Meredith Wilson, who also penned music for “The Music Man.”
The following principal roles are being cast:
• Doris Walker, female, 30 to 45, special event coordinator for Macy’s Department Store. She is a driven career woman and free thinker who has recently divorced. Hard-working and cynical. Mezzo-soprano.
• Fred Gaily, male, 30 to 45, a handsome military captain mustering out into civilian life. Smart, hopeful and warm. Baritone.
• Susan Walker, female, 8 to 12, daughter to Doris. She is wise beyond her years and a self-sufficient city girl. Soprano.
• Kris Kringle, male, 55 to 70, kind old man who believes he is Santa Claus. He embodies all of the classic characteristics of the jolly, friendly, warm-hearted icon. Baritone.
The director is also seeking singers, dancers and actors for several small speaking and featured singing roles for adults and children — shoppers, children, citizens, government officials and townspeople. Those auditioning should bring sheet music or a recorded track and sing a prepared song in the style of the show. A short dance combo may be taught, so they should dress appropriately. Those seeking principal roles will be asked to read from the script.
