CUMBERLAND — Morgantown Dance invites dancers ages 6 and up to audition for the production of “The Jazz Nutcracker: Land of Suites” on Sept. 5 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Allegany High School.

Genres of hip-hop, jazz, tap, modern and contemporary ballet will be auditioned.

Morgantown Dance is known for its full-length ballets, most of which have been classical. But lately, Morgantown Dance and Morgantown Ballet Co. have been delving into new territory. The past few seasons, Morgantown Dance has premiered several new works at the Metropolitan Theater, including “The Wizard of Oz,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Peter Pan.” With the new excitement of premieres, Morgantown Dance decided to kick up its traditional “Nutcracker” and try a jazz theme, combining jazz, tap, modern, contemporary ballet and even hip-hop with nontraditional costumes and music of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Tex Beneke.

The Cumberland performance will take place Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at Allegany and a portion of the ticket sales will support the AHS Drama Club.

Contact Desiree Witt at dezzwitt@yahoo.com to schedule an audition. Dancers should bring all shoes per genre for the audition. A small participation fee will be required if cast.
