CUMBERLAND — The Music at Penn Alps Scholarship program has awarded three new scholarships. Receiving the awards were Megan Bender and Bethany Carrington of Garrett County and Bridget Brown of Allegany County.

Currently in its eighth year, the program provides private instrumental or vocal music lessons for local, school-age students who might not otherwise have such an opportunity.

The program, which has grown from 23 students to 47, is made possible by the Naylor Family Trust Fund, the Community Trust Foundation, the Fred Bolton Memorial Fund, and the executive board of Music at Penn Alps.

In addition to the new awardees, the program has 44 students from the previous year whose scholarships have been renewed for this semester.

Students from Garrett County are Shayla Bender, Brooklyn Bowman, Rachel Bowser, Rachelle Brenneman, Emily Brobst, Malea Fullerton, Emma Helton, Ryan Kelly, Kayla Lowdermilk, Molly Magruder, Elijah Mason, Baird Mead, Lydia Nelson, Gabrielle Stem, Jaylyn Wilt, Piper Wilt, Kristin Yoder, Caleb Zimmerman, Carl Zimmerman and Shawn Zimmerman.

Students from Allegany County include Aaliyah Alkire, Tyler Corwell, Rebekah George, Seth Higson, Jenna Klink, Elizabeth Maust, Robert Moffet, Charles O’Boyle, William O’Boyle, Harlow Oliver, Claire Raesly, Chloe Richards, Taber Robinette, Hayden Shoemaker-Davis and Ava Strawderman.

West Virginia students are Alivia Arthur, Abigail Craddock, Emma Craddock, Lydia Gattens, Wyatt Lott, Ryan Louk, and Conner Wolford. Students from the Pennsylvania area are Levi Custer and Madison Emerick.

The scholarship program is accepting applications for the semester that begins Sept. 1. A limited number of new scholarships will be awarded to kindergarten through 12th grade music students for private lesson instruction.

Applications for fall are open to Garrett County, Allegany County, surrounding Pennsylvania and West Virginia areas and are due no later than Aug. 15.
