Retro sounds, vintage cars downtown Saturday

Solid Gold will perform Saturday on the McCoury Family Stage at 6 p.m.

CUMBERLAND — The 1950s, 1960s and beyond will return to Downtown Cumberland this weekend with a Saturday evening performance by the band Solid Gold and an exhibit of vintage cars by members of the Queen City Region AACA.

Members of the car club will begin to display their vintage rides between 4 and 5 p.m. in the area from North Centre Street to George Street and will remain set up throughout the event. Any vintage car owner who would like to participate or join the AACA should visit the website www.queecityaaca.org or call 301-729-1653 for more information and to coordinate their display.

The band Solid Gold, known for its sounds of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, will take the McCoury Family Stage at 6 p.m. The band consists of drummer Dick Redman; bass player Larry Baker; lead guitarist Jim Bauchman; and lead singer Sid Evans.

The band has donated the performance to support the Burgmeier’s Hauling Discover Downtown Cumberland series, so a gratuity bucket will be available to thank the band for their contribution.

A large dance area will be available in front of the stage and guests are encouraged to bring friends and family to dance the evening away.

For more information on this event, or to book the McCoury Family Stage for an organization or music group, email Dave Love, chair of the Discover Downtown Committee and temporary acting downtown manager, at azadsofcumberland@gmail.com or visit Facebook at www.facebook.com/historicdowntowncumberland.
