CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Cultural Foundation will host its 12th annual Garden Gala under a tent in the garden of the historic C. William Gilchrist Museum of Arts, 104 Washington St., on Aug. 24 from 7 to 11 p.m.
Tickets to the event include an exclusive pre-gala social from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for those who would like to have early access to auction items. Complimentary appetizers and selected wines will be available.
During the social there will be with music by Genevieve Batman, an accomplished 15-year-old cellist. Batman performs with the Allegany Community Symphony Orchestra and held the position of assistant-principal cellist at the InterHarmony International Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy. She performed at Carnegie Hall in November 2018.
Under the tent there will be music by Hot Sauce Willie throughout the evening. Local vendors will provide a smorgasbord of hors d’oeuvres.
Those attending will have the opportunity to observe the featured guest artist, Chris Nelson, as he creates a piece on site that will then be auctioned at the end of the evening. Nelson is a Garrett County painter and frame carver known for his framed works with unique carving embellishments that complement and carry on the theme of the painting into the frame.
A live auction will be held during the gala that will offer numerous art items, including an original painting by Gov. Larry Hogan’s artist wife, Yumi Hogan, oriental rugs and VIP concert and sports tickets. The present exhibition of paintings by Shane Miller a Nashville, Tennessee, watercolor artist and the jewelry and metal sculptures of local artist Macee McCunn remain for all to enjoy.
Tickets can be obtained at the door or reserved by calling 301-724-5800 and leaving a message. Guests at the pre-gala social will have the opportunity for early bidding and to buy the “purchase now” items that have been pre-priced.
The next exhibition at the C. William Gilchrist Museum of the Arts will run Aug. 30 through Sept. 29, featuring unique artist Sibyl Mackenzie and Oleksandra Conley. Hours of operation are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
