Cumberland woman charged with assault on police

LAVALE — Two women suffered critical injuries when they were struck by a vehicle shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday near D'Atri's Restaurant on National Highway, according to Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Department of Emergency Services.

The victims were conscious at the scene and were found lying in the roadway when Maryland State Police and ambulances from Frostburg and Corriganville arrived at the scene.

No information was available on the condition of the victims — said to be in their 30s — who were in critical condition when they were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

The accident involved a 2015 Hyundai that stopped and remained at the scene when police arrived.

No further information was available from state police.

All lanes of National Highway were closed until 7:30 a.m. as troopers and the state police Crash Team conducted the investigation.
