ACCIDENT - Northern Garrett County High School held its 54th commencement Sunday at the school. There were 125 graduates.

The 2006 class officers were Becky Berkebile, president; Heather Deem, vice president and Jessica Fratz, secretary/treasurer.

Keena Yommer, daughter of Ken and Bonnie Yommer, was selected as valedictorian for the class. She has participated in the marching band for the past four years and has served as the drum major this year. She has also served as the treasurer of the National Honor Society.

Along with school activities, Yommer is involved in her church, where she is a student leader in the youth group, pianist and worship leader in the youth and adult worship teams. She has served as a pre-school teacher for six years and has been a member of the choir for six years. In her youth group, Yommer has participated in Bible Quiz and has completed in the sectional, district and national levels of the Fine Arts Festival. She has received several Who's Who nominations and is a state Distinguished Scholar.

Yommer will attend Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville, Pa.

Lacie Bittinger, daughter of James and Robin Bittinger, earned salutatorian status. During her high school years, she participated in mock trial and Model UN and served as the girls' soccer statistician for three years. As a senior, Bittinger served as the National Honor Society president and as the yearbook business editor. Bittinger has received Student of the Year and Student of the Month awards and numerous Who's Who nominations. She received honorable mention as a Maryland Distinguished Scholar and participated in TenderHeart for Tots, a local toy drive. The graduate currently attends Friendsville United Pentecostal Church and plans to attend Marshall University as a John Marshall Scholar.
