Many thanks to the kind woman who picked up two elderly C&O Canal Towpath walkers who overextended themselves and found no Uber, Lyft or taxi to take them back to town, so timidly stuck out their thumbs to hitchhike.

Neither of us had done that for more than 50 years and know how illegal and dangerous it is. A single woman of our same vintage stopped and took us. We must have looked so pitiful.

She was delightful, said she had never once hitchhiked herself nor ever picked up before, but she had a feeling she could help us. And so she did.

She said she lived in a stone house right by the canal. We want to thank her so very much for her brave generosity, we appreciated her kindness so very much. The world needs more kindness for strangers like she showed so openly.
