RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Thirteen people have thrown their hats into the ring for the seven elected positions that are up for grabs come election day in this Mineral County community.
Ridgeley will hold its general election June 12, and anyone who wants, can register to vote through Tuesday.
Voters will have 13 candidates to choose from: Mitchell Reeves, the incumbent mayor, is running against Richard Lechliter, who currently sits on town council.
Three people — Melinda Liller, Diana Bennett and Dawna Twigg — are running for recorder, and eight people are vying for the five town council seats. Of those eight, the number is equally divided between incumbent council members and the newcomers who hope to unseat them. Tom Hedrick, Don Buckbee, Jonathan Kinsman and Aaron Leatherman are running against Tanya Ryan, Robert Shipley, Jim Twigg and Faye Lemley — all of whom are currently on town council.
Because West Virginia state law mandates voters be given an opportunity to vote early, polls will also be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 2 and 9.
Anyone who isn’t currently registered to vote can pick up an application to do so at town hall.
