GRANTSVILLE — Ray Glenwood Jenkins, 91, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born Oct. 22, 1917 in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Ralph K. and Anna V. (Stephens) Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ercell (Corbett) Jenkins, Jan. 25, 2009; three brothers, Myron, Roy and Robert Jenkins; four sisters, Edna Wampler, Ruth Livengood, Alcy Housel and Iva Jenkins; and one son-in-law, Willard “Gypsy” Broadwater.

Ray was a loving father and husband, hard working farmer and also a part time rural mail carrier. He was a World War II veteran and was a member and past commander of the Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and a life long member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Grantsville.

He is survived by three daughters, Mary Alice Broadwater, Edith Rae Jenkins and Jay Miller and Sue Anna McKenzie and husband, Jim, all of Grantsville; one sister, Lula Smith, Winchester, Va.; one grandson, Franklin Broadwater and wife, Allison; two step-granddaughters, Tracy Schroyer and Tammy Crayton; three great-grandchildren, Brianna, Gracie and Brayden Broadwater; six step-great grandchildren, Brandy, Becky and Jessy Schroyer, Adam, Ashton and Alex Crayton.

Friends may call at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wanda Lester officiating.

Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
