OAKLAND — Derek Saku scored the winning goal with 1:40 to play in the first half and No. 2 Bishop Walsh held on in the second half to beat Southern 2-1 in the Spartans’ final Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference contest of the season.

The Rams took the early lead when Jasper Tasker made good on a Connor Forrester assist 1:20 into play. It would take 20 minutes for BW to get the game-tying goal when Dalton Ingram went unassisted.

Almost the same amount of time would run off the clock before Zach Wolodkin assisted Saku with the go-ahead score.

The Spartans led 14-10 in shots, and 6-2 on corner kicks. Brandon Kimble stopped seven shots for Bishop Walsh, while Seth Ingram had seven for the Rams. Ingram was credited with a key stop on a penalty kick in the second half that stopped the Spartans from adding an insurance point.

The junior varsity game ended 2-0 for BW with Roman Giconi scoring unassisted, and Evan Dunn assisting Gordon Hasslinger.

Bishop Walsh (15-3, 5-3 AMAC) will finish its regular season when St. Maria Goretti visits on Wednesday. Southern (1-11, 1-6 AMAC) is at Northern on Wednesday.
