High school basketball all-star games moved to April 29 at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG - Because of a scheduling change at Frostburg State University, the date of the annual Western Maryland All-Star Basketball Classic has been changed.

The original date for the games was Sunday, April 15. The new date is Sunday, April 29. All players, coaches, referees should take note of this change.

The annual all-star games pit senior high school standouts from West Virginia against their counterparts from Western Maryland.

This year's girls game will tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the boys game at 4 p.m.

PVAA tourney to begin Saturday

CRESAPTOWN - The Potomac Valley Athletic Association will hold its annual Pepsi Tournament starting April 14 at the First Peoples Complex in Creasptown. The games will be played at Weber and Brauer fields.

All tri-state area 10-12 year-old regular-season roster teams are invited to register. There will be a $75 registration fee. The drawing for the tournament will be held today, 8 p.m., at the pavillion by Weber field.

Girls softball pitching clinic slated

FROSTBURG - The Allegany County little league girls softball will hold a free instructional pitching clinic at Paris Glendenning softball field, Saturday, April 14. The session for beginners will be held at 1 p.m., and intermediate at 2 p.m. Each participant must provide her own catcher. Parents are also encouraged to attend.

Grasshoppers hold weekly outing

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Western Maryland Grasshoppers Club held its weekly outing at the Rock Harbor Golf Course.

A four-man scramble was played. Thirty-three members attended, and the average team score was 65.

The next outing will be at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown on Tuesday. Tee times will start at 11 a.m., and players will leave the Cumberland Chick-fil-A at 9 a.m. Any interested golfer must call Frank Shepherd at (304) 738-1559 by Sunday evening to sign up.

Hot Stove League seeking players

CUMBERLAND - Any player 13 years of age before May 1 interested in playing in the Hot Stove Baseball League should call (301) 724-2591.

Allegany Gridiron Club to meet

CUMBERLAND - The Allegany Gridiron Club will meet Thursday, April 19, 6:30 p.m., in the school library. Allegany football supporters, parents of players, and parents of eighth-grade students interested in being a part of Allegany football should attend.

A tour of the facilities will be given by the staff and refreshments will be served by the Gridiron. April begins the 2007 football season membership drive. Students are also welcome to attend.

CUMBERLAND - The Fort Hill F Club will meet tonight, at 6:30, in room 120 of Fort Hill High School.

PVAA to meet Thursday

CRESAPTOWN - The Potomac Valley Athletic Association will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, at 8 p.m., at the Creasptown Fire Hall.

Anyone interested in joining the PVAA is encouraged to attend. This is a mandatory meeting for all head baseball coaches as there will be a baseball meeting after the regular meeting.
