KEYSER, W.Va. — The fourth-ranked Bishop Walsh Spartans came back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Keyser, 3-2, Wednesday night at Keyser. Thus, the Spartans win the Maryland-West Virginia Bi-State League title to extend its run of winning at least one championship to 27 years.

“We were down 2-0 at the half, and came back to score three,” said BW coach Joe Rowan. “The kids played really well. We hadn’t come back from a deficit like that this year or last year, so we’re really pleased with tonight’s effort.”

Scoring the Keyser goals in the first half on assists from Greg Kerns were Jack Tasker at the 30:52 mark and Chris Halbritter with 14:39 left before the break.

Dylan Dunn put the first Bishop Walsh goal on the board with a penalty kick at the 37:13 mark.

Matt Kelley kicked the next two goals on passes from Onosrio Castiglia at the 30:36 mark and with 7:45 on the clock for the win.

Both teams had 10 shots on goal and BW had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Corbin White had seven saves for Keyser and Brandon stopped seven shots for the Spartans.

Bishop Walsh (12-3) will host Fort Hill Friday afternoon. Keyser (7-7-1) will host Preston County Saturday.

Southern 0

CUMBERLAND — Derrick Parker scored a pair of goals to lead the top-ranked Fort Hill boys soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Southern Tuesday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

Parker scored the first goal of the game unassisted with 24:12 remaining in the first half. Andrew Amoruso’s unassisted goal at 1:40 made it 2-0 at the half.

Brad Tyler scored on an assist from Parker at 37:51 of the second half, followed by an unassisted goal by Michael Moyer at 33:56, and a Sean Elliott goal at 31:44 assisted by Tyler. Parker scored his second goal unassisted at 4:51.

Fort Hill outshot Southern, 31-2, and led in corner kicks, 6-0. Daniel Johnson had two saves for Fort Hill, while Seth Ingram had 18 for Southern.

Fort Hill (8-1-1, 7-1-1 AMAC) plays at Bishop Walsh Friday afternoon. Southern (1-9, 1-6) will play at Mountain Ridge on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s junior varsity match, Fort Hill blanked Southern, 5-0. Hunter Tipton scored a pair of goals for the Sentinels, while Andrew Yost, Evan Blank and Kirk Yutzy scored single goals. Yost, Alex Parker and James Johnson all had one assist.
