ROMNEY, W.Va. — Fort Cumberland scored five runs in the seventh inning in the opener, then pounded out 21 hits in the nitecap to sweep Romney Post 91 by 6-3 and 15-10 scores in their American Legion baseball twinbill Sunday at Hampshire High School.
In the first game, Fort Cumberland (3-0) led 1-0 through six innings before blowing it open with a five-run seventh. Aaron Lehman had the big hit in the inning, a three-run triple.
Travis Miller finished with three singles, Lehman tripled and singled and Evan Harden had an RBI double for Fort Cumberland. Zach Bradfield scattered seven hits and struck out 13 in a complete-game win for Post 13.
Hessler doubled and singled and Matt Maiers singled twice for Romney.
In the second game, Harden hit four singles, Lehman had three singles and Drew O’Neal and Eli Souders had a double and two singles for Fort Cumberland, which built a 12-4 lead after three innings. Matt Propst had two doubles and Miller, Pat Livingston and Ryan Briner two singles each.
Bucky Timbrook, Josh Crawford and McPeak had two singles for Romney.
Fort Cumberland (3-0) plays again Thursday, at 5:30, against Grantsville at Garrett College.
