CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill, Northern and Southern have advanced to the first-round of the Maryland Class 1A playoffs.
The Sentinels (8-1), coming off of Saturday’s 38-14 Homecoming victory over Allegany, is the second-seed in the West region and will host seventh-seed Brunswick (4-5) on Friday, 7 p.m., at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
Northern (8-1), the third seed and enjoying its 36-0 victory over rival Southern, will host sixth-seeded Williamsport (5-4) and top-seeded Catoctin (8-1) will host the eighth-seeded Rams (3-6). Both games will be on Friday and begin at 7 p.m.
The other playoff game in the region is No. 5 Clear Spring (5-4) at No. 4 Boonsboro (5-4) on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Catoctin-Southern winner will play the winner between Clear Spring and Boonsboro and the Brunswick-Fort Hill winner takes on Northern or Williamsport. The games will be at the home of the higher remaining seed.
For example, if Fort Hill wins, Northern or Williamsport will travel to Greenway Avenue Stadium. A Brunswick upset would mean the Railroaders would have to go to either Northern or Williamsport.
For the state quarterfinals, the remaining teams will be reseeded and the highest seeds will host playoff games in the same format as above with the quarterfinals being held Nov. 22-23 with the semifinals on Nov. 29-30.The state championship game to be held at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.
