MCHENRY — Brandon Lucas homered and tripled in the first game, doubled and singled in the second and finished the night with seven runs batted in as Garrett County cruised to a 16-1, 15-0 sweep of Moorefield in American Legion baseball Tuesday night at Garrett College.

The victories ended a busy four-day stretch for Garrett, which had beaten Romney on Monday night and split a twinbill with Romney on Saturday at Potomac State College.

In the first game Tuesday evening, Lucas belted a two-run triple in the second inning and a two-run homer during an eight-run third. Hayden McLaughlin ripped a three-run double and an RBI single and Peyton Carr added a pair of doubles and an RBI for Garrett, which had 15 hits in the five-inning game.

Bradie Moore had a double, single and an RBI and Jake Rush stroked two singles. Mason Brenneman got the win, allowing two hits and striking out four over four innings.

Mason Ours had an RBI single for Moorefield.

In the second game, Garrett put the game away with a nine-run first inning and finished with 12 hits.

Lucas had a two-run single and an RBI double, Carr two singles and two RBIs and Moore a double and an RBI single to lead the way. Will Moon slapped a two-run single and Isaac Bittinger had an RBI single.

Carsyn King tossed a five-inning four-hitter, walked none and struck out six.

Garrett County (13-6 overall, 3-1 Mountain District) will play Marietta, Ohio, on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m., and Elkins at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be at Philip Barbour High School in Philippi, West Virginia.

MCHENRY — Garrett made the most of five hits in besting Romney Monday night at Garrett College.

Sam Beeman hit two singles, Peyton Carr had a single and two RBIs and Brandon Lucas an RBI single for Garrett, which took a 3-0 lead in the second by drawing three bases-loaded walks. Romney closed to within 3-2 on a two-run single by Chandler Rhodes in the top of the fourth. Garrett got the runs back in the bottom of the inning, making it 5-2.

Lucas got the win, pitching five innings with four strikeouts and five walks. Carsyn King allowed one hit and fanned two over the final two innings.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Brandon Lucas had three more hits and Bradie Moore had two hits and earned a save in Garrett’s win in the opener, while Morgan Little knocked in three runs in Romney’s win in the nightcap as the teams split a doubleheader at Golden Park on Saturday.

In the first game, Lucas hit three singles and knocked in a run, Peyton Carr belted an RBI triple, Sam Beeman had an RBI double and single, and Moore added two singles and an RBI to lead Garrett. Will Moon tacked on a two-run single, Isaac Upole, Isaac Bittinger and Cory Ashby had RBI singles, while Mason Brenneman smacked a two-run single.

Upole got the win, scattering six hits and striking out four in 4 2/3 innings. Moore got the final out of the fifth inning with two runners aboard and Garrett on top 7-5, and allowed one hit and struck out one over the final 2 1/3 innings.

Tra Bryson hit a two-run double and Little had an RBI single for Romney.

In the second game, Little cracked an RBI double and a two-run single and Foster Conis drilled a two-run triple and a single to spark Romney to the victory. Dustin Hott added an RBI double and Eli Hott had an RBI single.

Eli Hott was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits over six innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

Lucas tripled and singled and Jake Rush had a two-run double and finished with three RBIs for Garrett.
