FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge scored three second-half goals to break open a 1-0 game and defeat Southern, 4-0, in boys high school soccer action Monday at Mountain Ridge.

Jacob Ritchie, Logan Kiddy, Mason Reed and Drew Smith scored the goals for the Miners, while Brady Weimer, Kiddy and Ritchie had assists.

The Miners outshot the Rams, 18-2, and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jacob Wilson had the lone goalie save for Mountain Ridge. Baird Mead saved eight for Southern.

The Miners (1-2) will host Clear Spring today at 7:30 p.m., with the jayvees scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Mountain Ridge junior varsity also blanked Southern on Monday, winning its match, 12-0.

Tanner Lohnas scored four goals for the Miners and Walker Barclay two. Caleb Langham, Evan Cook, Brendan Kline, Bradyn Speir, Colton Gardelle and Ethan Wilt scored single goals. Kline had two assists, while Brady Gray, Andrew Lindner, Cook and Will Haberlein all had one.

Lohnas and Cook both had saves in goal for the Miners, while Quentin Wood had 10 for the Rams.
