FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge dropped a pair of matches Saturday in the Mountain Ridge Shootout, the first one being 3-1 to Brunswick, and the second one 3-0 to Altoona.
Brunswick took a 2-0 lead to start the game before Justus LePrevost scored for Mountain Ridge at 28 minutes of the first half to bring the Miners to within 2-1 at the half.
The Miners outshot the Railroaders, 8-5, and had a 4-3 advantage in corners. Ethan Ashenfelter had three saves in goal for Mountain Ridge.
In the nightcap, Altoona scored a goal in each half to take the decision over the Miners.
Mountain Ridge led in shots, 10-9, and Altoona in corners, 5-4. Ashenfelter had two saves for the Miners and Brady Freiwald three.
Altoona won the shootout with a 5-1 win over Brunswick.
Mountain Ridge (0-2) will host Southern Monday at 7:30 p.m.
In the junior varsity portion of the Shootout, Mountain Ridge beat Brunswick, 4-2, with goals from Evan Cook, Tanner Lohnas, Will Stark and Brady Gray. Will Haberlein and Cook had assists. Ethan Wilt had three saves.
Mountain Ridge then beat Altoona, 6-2. Lohnas and Cook both had two goals, while Haberlein and Colton Gardelle both had one. Wilt had one save.
