McHENRY — Oakland swept a doubleheader on Sunday, a day after sweeping a twinbill on Saturday to defeat the Romney Cycles Orioles four times over the weekend in Pen-Mar League action, with all four games being played at Garrett College.
On Sunday, Oakland won the first game, 2-0, and the second game, 2-1. Nate Wright pitched a complete-game 2-hit shutout in the opener for Oakland, striking out seven.
Oakland scored two runs in the bottom of the first as Williams doubled a runner to third, with both scoring on a double by Tommy Reams.
Demetreous Taylor went the distance for Romney Cycles, giving up just four hits and striking out three.
In Sunday’s second game, Jeremy Fitzwater pitched a complete-game 3-hitter for Oakland, striking out six and allowing a run in the second inning. Oakland scored its two runs in the fourth when Williams and Reams doubled and Shingler singled.
Cody Jeffries also went the distance for Romney Cycles, allowing just four hits and striking out four.

On Saturday, Greg Beachy pitched a complete-game 2-hit shutout for Oakland, striking out seven on just 82 pitches. Williams, Reams and Stowell all doubled for three of Oakland’s nine hits.
Tony Fetters went the distance and took the loss for Romney Cycles.
Oakland scored one in the first, two in the fifth and three in the seventh to complete the Saturday sweep. In the seventh, a runner reached on an error before Anderson, Colmer and Altobello all doubled.
For Romney, Taylor tripled, while Josh Kuykendall and Reed both had a double and two singles.
Beachy pulled a Wilbur Wood and went both ends of the doubleheader for Oakland, allowing Romney Cycles just four hits in the second game and throwing 151 pitches combined in both complete games.
