PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Kymiee Minnich led five Petersburg scorers in double figures, tallying a team-high 20 points and leading Petersburg past Keyser 79-64 on Wednesday evening.
Minnich’s team-high came on eight field goals and a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. Kayla Lantz added 15 points on seven baskets, including the Vikings’ lone three-pointer.
Mackenzie Kitzmiller, Mickala Taylor and Jenna Burgess all scored 12 points — Kitzmiller had four field goals and was 4 for 5 from the line, Taylor knocked down five shots from the floor and shot 2 of 3 from the foul line, and Burgess recorded four field goals and was 4 of 9 from the stripe, where Petersburg shot 14-21.
The game was close throughout, with Keyser leading 18-17 at the end of one and the Vikings holding single-digit leads of 41-35 and 57-52 at the end of the next two periods, but the Petersburg fourth quarter was too much for the Tornado to overcome.
Minnich and Kitzmiller had six fourth-quarter points and Lantz had four points over the final eight minutes.
The game-high in the point department belonged to Alexa Shoemaker, who had eight field goals and was 5 for 8 from the foul line, where Keyser was 18 of 22.
Kaili Crowl was the second of four Keyser players in double figures, recording 14 points on five buckets, including a three, and 3 of 4 from the line. Maddy Broadwater had a pair of twos, Keyser’s other three-pointer and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul line to record 11 points. Chloe Healy added 10 on four baskets and 2 for 2 from the line.
Petersburg (11-2) travels to Moorefield on Friday. Keyser (7-5) hosts Northern on Monday.
Frankfort 91Berkeley Springs 22
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Balanced scoring and a stout defense propelled Frankfort to an easy victory at Berkeley Springs Wednesday evening.
The Falcons (11-1) controlled the game from the start, leading 27-8 after the first quarter and 45-9 at halftime. It was 65-10 going into the final eight minutes.
Four players eclipsed double figures led by Macie Miller’s 15 points. Makenna Douthitt added 13, Izzy Layton had 11 and Ashley Phillips scored 10. Maria Perdew, Kaitlyn Crist and Larae Grove each finished with eight.
Karalyne Banks led the 6-5 Indians with seven points and Emiley Staebler had five.
Frankfort hit 11 3-pointers with Perdew, Grove, Crist and Phillips each having two. Haley Malone led with eight rebounds and Miller had six. Grove had six assists and made five steals.
Frankfort visits Elkins on Monday at noon. The Indians visit Mountain View Christian on Tuesday.
