MONACA, Pa. — Potomac State College volleyball dropped a pair of matches at Penn State Beaver on Saturday, falling to the host school of the tri-match in the opener, 18-25, 13-25, 20-25.

Alayzia Ward had seven kills and two aces for Potomac State. Abby Wilson had five kills and Lauren Whiteman 14 assists and six digs. Marissa Earle had 29 digs, Kira Williams 12 digs and Alli Hockaday six digs.

In the second match, the Catamounts fell to Kent State Tuscarawa, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21,18-25, 26-24.

Ward had 17 kills, four aces and 11 digs, Wilson 16 kills, Meaghan Willis 12 kills and Kira Williams nine kills and 21 digs. Whiteman had 48 assists and 10 digs, Earle 51 digs, Hockaday 27 digs, Hannah Gordon 16 digs and Brooke Slaubaugh four kills and three blocks.

“Despite today’s losses, I am very pleased with how well we played and improved throughout the day,” said PSC head coach Martha Ganoe. “We are a very young, inexperienced team with players learning new positions. We started off with a lot of nerves during our first match. Today I saw signs of greatness in this team and I am looking forward to watching them grow and develop throughout the season.”

Potomac State plays at home Sept. 11 against Penn State Fayette.
