FROSTBURG — Josh Arnold won the 130-pound class with a pin and began a string of eight straight victories that closed out the match and lifted the Rams to a 55-24 victory over Mountain Ridge in high school wrestling Tuesday night.

Lex Ozias (135) and Nick Brant (140) won major decisions, Brutus Scheffel (145) by technical fall, and Bubba Scheffel (152), Jordan Skipper (160), Kody Lewis (171) and Ryan Bennett (189) by pins to complete the run by the Rams.

Southern is ranked third overall in the state, and No. 1 among Class 1A and 2A schools, by the Maryland State Wrestling Association.

The first six matches were all won by pins, and Mountain Ridge held an early lead by winning four of them.

Nathan Payne (215) Lenny Vega (112), Tom Patterson (119) and Cody Clise (125) got the victories for Mountain Ridge. Payne’s pin, in 35 seconds, was the quickest of the night.

Ryan Fitzwater (285) and Sean Chapman (103) had pins for Southern.

Southern (14-2) will wrestle in the Mt. Mat Madness at Mt. St. Joe’s on Friday and Saturday. Mountain Ridge (16-5) will be idle until taking on Middletown and Thomas Stone on Jan. 24 at Middletown.
