All-Area basketball nominations needed

CUMBERLAND — Nominations for the Times-News All-Area basketball teams are now being accepted.

Nominated players will be placed on a ballot which head coaches will use to determine the All-Area teams.

Head coaches may nominate players from their teams, and are asked to provide season statistics for each nominee.

Nominations may also be faxed to 301-722-5270, or can be made by calling the sports department at 301-722-4600 weeknights between 6 and 9 p.m.

The deadline for nominations is today.

Dapper Dan final sign-up Wednesday

CUMBERLAND — The Dapper Dan Little League will hold final sign-up for the Major and Minor divisions on Wednesday from 6 pto 9 p.m. in the main lobby of the Riverside YMCA.

Players ages 4-12 as of April 30, 2012 are eligible to play in the league. The Tee Ball Division consists of players ages 4-6 years old, Coach Pitch Division ages 5-7, Minor Division ages 7-10 years old, and Major Division ages 10-12 years old. All new and returning players must sign up prior to each of the leagues draft dates.

Mountain Ridge fundraiser Sunday

FROSTBURG    — The Mountain Ridge baseball team will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sunday, March 25, from noon to 6 p.m.,. at the Frostburg American Legion. Tickets can be purchased from a baseball player or at the door. Takeouts are available.

CAYFL Warriors hold two registrations

CUMBERLAND — The Knippenberg Insurance Braddock Warriors Cumberland Area Youth Football League team will register Saturday, March 24 and Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Braddock Middle School.

Any students in grades 6-8 for the 2012-13 school year who lives in the Braddock Middle School district is eligible to play. All new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate. For information, call head coach Jim Shaffer at 301-729-8285.

Firefighters golf tournament May 25

FLINTSTONE — Cumberland Firefighters Local 1715 will holds its charity golf tournament Friday, May 25 at the Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort. Registration is at 8 a.m., shotgun start at 10 a.m., and the awards dinner at 3 p.m. at the Ali Ghan Shrine Club picnic grounds. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
