CUMBERLAND — Brady Weimer scored a game-high 20 points, leading a trio of scorers in double figures as Mountain Ridge defeated Allegany, 62-48, Tuesday night in high school boys basketball.

Weimer’s game-high tally came on seven field goals and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.

Sean Brown tacked on 15 points on six buckets and 3 for 6 from the stripe and Nathaniel Washington made five baskets, including a pair of 3-pointers, to finish with 12 points.

Mountain Ridge led at the conclusion of each quarter (18-8, 33-20 and 49-29) and had the advantage on the boards, 39-25.

Solomon Green led the Campers with 14 points on six field goals, including two 3s. Brennan White and Caiden Chorpenning added nine apiece.

Allegany (3-12) visits Frankfort on Friday and Mountain Ridge, winners of six of its last seven games, visits Meyersdale tonight. 

Calvary 69Grace 25

HAGERSTOWN — Ashby Whitacre, Jonathan Larry and Colby Mallery combined for 51 points as Calvary cruised past Grace on Tuesday night in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference showdown.

Whitacre scored a game-high 23 points on eight field goals, five of which fell from beyond the arc, and 2 of 2 from the free-throw line, where the Eagles shot a perfect 9 for 9 as a team.

Larry was the second-leading scorer with 16 points on five field goals, including a three, and 5 for 5 from the stripe.

Mallery topped it off with 12 points on four buckets, including a 3-pointer, and 2 of 2 from the line. Noah Robinette added nine points.

Calvary led 17-8 at the end of the first quarter before pulling away in the second, leading 34-13 at the break and 52-19 entering the fourth.

Corwell had eight of the team’s 24 assists, with Mallery dishing out five assists and tallying six rebounds.

Larry led on the glass with nine rebounds and Robinette added seven. Jackson Dayton had five blocks and Ethan Adams tallied three steals.

The Eagles fell to Heritage, 55-51, last Friday night.

Calvary led throughout, until Heritage took the lead with 4:15 to go and nailed late three-pointers to ice the game.

“Heritage has only lost one game in the MDCC conference,” said Eagles head coach Paul Corwell. “I thought our boys were going to pull it out for Senior Night.”

Larry led Calvary with a double-double, tallying 12 points and 13 rebounds. Mallery and Adams fell just shy of double-double performances, with Mallery getting 10 points and eight boards and Adams collecting eight points, eight rebounds and three assists. Logan Corwell added 10 points and three steals. Heritage had four players reach double-figure point totals.

Calvary (6-9 overall, 4-7 MDCC) plays at Blair County tonight, 7 p.m.

Petersburg 53East Hardy 48

BAKER, W.Va. — Matt VanMeter and Dalton Lough led a balanced scoring attack as Petersburg held off East Hardy on Tuesday night.

VanMeter finished with 15 points on five baskets and 2 of 2 from the line and Lough tacked on 11 points on four field goals. VanMeter and Lough each knocked down three shots from 3-point territory.

Charlie Moomaw added eight points, Kahner Turner had seven and Slade Saville finished with six.

The Vikings led 10-9 at the end of one, but pulled away in the second period to lead 35-15 at halftime. They led 46-26 before East Hardy won the fourth quarter 22-7.

Petersburg (4-14) plays at Moorefield today.
