GRANTSVILLE — New Germany State Park will host a Maryland Hunter Education Course on Sept. 10, 12 and 14.
The class is for first-time hunters obtaining their hunter education certification.
Students must attend all three sessions.
Any student under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult that is 21 years of age or older during all three sessions.
Students must register for the course in advance.
The course will include instruction in hunter responsibility, firearms and ammunition, firearm handling and safety, marksmanship and shooting fundamentals, principles of wildlife management, bowhunting, muzzleloader hunting, tree stand safety, hunter safety and first aid, water safety and federal and state legal requirements.
In order to pass the course, students must complete a 50-question multiple choice test with a minimum grade of 80 percent, demonstrate to the instructor the ability to safely handle a firearm through practical exercises and participate in live firing.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
