CUMBERLAND - A Cumberland man was seriously injured and a Baltimore couple suffered apparent non-life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision Sunday night on the Canal Parkway at Wineow Street, according to Cumberland Police.

Marshall A. Shook Sr., 53, of Columbia Avenue, was taken to Memorial Hospital by a Cumberland Fire Department ambulance following the 8:10 p.m. mishap, police said. Also taken to Memorial by ambulance were Mary C. Ward, 64, and Charles F. Ward, 63, both of Baltimore.

No information was available concerning the medical conditions of the three.

Police said the 2005 Hyundai sport utility vehicle, operated southbound by Mary Ward and occupied by Charles Ward, crossed the center line where it collided head-on with a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina operated by Shook. Ward reportedly told police she lost control of her vehicle when her hands slipped off the steering wheel.

The accident remains under investigation with the assistance of an accident reconstruction specialist.
