CUMBERLAND — William Joseph Maloney, 59, of Cumberland, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born May 13, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Ann (Ward) Maloney.

Mr. Maloney was a systems analyst for Fannie Mae in Herndon, Va., and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a 1965 graduate of LaSalle and a 1969 graduate of The George Washington University in Washington where he played football.

Surviving are his wife Margy (Sloan) Maloney; one daughter, Erin Maloney Mergler and husband Hal, Woodbridge; one son, Brian Joseph Maloney and wife Rita, Fairfield, Conn.; and their maternal grandmother, Rose Falconi Boland, Bedford, Pa.; one sister, Mary Ann Walsh and husband Doug, Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; one brother, Frank Maloney and wife Bobbi, Pittsburgh; three stepdaughters, Allison Watkins and husband John, Hagerstown, Bridgid Zapf and fiancé Matthew Harchick, Germantown and Navy Lt. j.g. Lauren Zapf, San Diego, Calif.; stepson, William Zapf III and wife Valerie, Falls Church; grandchildren, Joseph Maloney, Keely Maloney, Colin Maloney, Finian William Maloney, Kyle Mergler and Olivia Mergler; step- grandchildren, Landon Watkins, Andrew Watkins and Adele Zapf; and several nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

At Mr. Maloney’s request his body will be cremated.
